Where do you make the decorations?

Everything is designed, sewn, handmade, hand painted or marbled by us in our studio in Glasgow's east end and printed with local facilities.

We support local and small business, sourcing materials and using facilities that are near to us so we can keep our quality high and consistent, and our carbon footprint low.

What materials do you use?

All our artisanal décor is created with high quality papers, cards, paints and inks, with thoughtful consideration and attention to detail at every stage of creation.
We source almost all our paper, card and materials from U.K. mills and suppliers, keeping our quality high and consistent.

  • All tissue paper used is acid-free, lignin free and ph neutral - meaning its good for the environment, non-yellowing and won’t get brittle!
  • All wall hangings use sanded oak dowels which are FSC and PEFC certified.
  • One of the various recycled and sustainable cards and papers we love to work with is Bockingford watercolour paper from St. Cuthbert's Mill. Check out how they keep tradtion alive by making this paper here.
  • Risograph printing is a very energy efficient printing method using non-toxic, soy based inks. For creations that use this process we use 100% recycled card.
Are these decorations sustainable?

With sustainability at the forefront, all décor is environmentally conscious using long lasting but eventually biodegradable or recyclable materials sourced with the lowest carbon footprint possible.

From FSC certified materials, to card recycled from old coffee cups(!) we constantly strive to create a balance between using sustainable materials with the greatest longevity and quality of the final piece.

How long will my paper decorations last?

While so much of our décor looks delicate, its much tougher than it looks - a great example of this is our original sample garlands we made back in 2015, still going strong as the day they were made, hanging colourfully in our studio.

They are not designed for outdoor use and they don't like too much moisture in the air, but with careful use and care they can last a long time - we have Christmas paper decorations that have been in our family for 70+ years!

How should I look after my decorations?

Care advice:

  • To prolong the vibrancy of any painted or printed item keep it out of direct sunlight.
  • If at any point your garland begins to warp with heat or moisture simply place it between heavy books or iron it on a low setting on the wrong side to help flatten it back out.
  • Tissue tassels love a gentle sway and part of their charm is that fluttering movement. If at any point with the heat or moisture in their environment they become a little too tousled for your liking - try blowing them down from above on the cool/slow setting of a hairdryer; or (if you have the patience!) you can also use hair straighteners on the coolest setting and gently work through them.
Where can I read reviews and see customer pics?

We love when people share their photos in their own spaces. Check out pics and reviews here

Where does the name Paper Street Dolls come from?

We first used the name Paper Street Dolls while briefly working together back in 2010 as part of an art school project picked somewhat quickly and whimsically!

We wanted a name that reflected our mutual love of paper (and prime material of choice) and as film and pop culture fans we both thought of the Paper Street Soap company from Fight Club! Add to that the song Paper Doll from Fleetwood Mac, and that there are two of us, and the somewhat abstracted name was born.

In 2015 once we decided to share our paper garlands with the world we used the same name!
